It’s in the crust

What makes a good pizza? For some, it’s the sauce while other times the toppings take the pie. Of course, this popular item that many college students consider its own food group wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for the dough.

When asked which place had the best pizza crust on the south side of Broad Street, the voters placed a first-place order supporting City Pizza, 2700 S. 16th St., and 100 Snyder Ave.

Bob Petril, owner of the Marconi location, takes the pizza-making process very seriously.

“We use probably the best flour on the market,” he said. “We mix our dough at least two to three times a day. “

Frank Andrew, who owns the Whitman location, is a firm believer in consistency.

“We stay with the same product,” he said. The public knows if you change. They know what they want.”

Petril agrees with his fellow owner.

“You have to be consistent if you want to be successful,” he said.

Celebre’s heated up the dough in second while Steak Em Up baked in third.
