Upon hearing a knock on the front door of a residence on the 1500 block of South Stanley Street, a 58-year-old answered Friday morning to find a man police say identified himself as an officer of the law, but then allegedly forced his way inside at gunpoint.

Darryl Jenkins, 41, of Southwest, allegedly showed the resident a badge at about 7:30 a.m. and, when asked where his police car was, ignored the question and told the man someone reported he was feeding feral cats, Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said. The man at the door then allegedly pulled a silver automatic handgun from his waistband and pushed his way inside the home, Tolliver said. The victim grabbed a nearby knife and the two wrestled until Jenkins allegedly pinned the man to a chair and stole $200 from his front right pants pocket before fleeing on foot from where he entered, Tolliver said.

The homeowner was unharmed in the alleged attack, but the following day, while inside a store at 31st and Dickinson streets, he spotted the man he believed was his assailant and called police.

Jenkins, also known as Derrick Johnson, was arrested at 9:20 a.m. Nov. 7 and charged with impersonating an officer, aggravated assault, unlawful restraint, false imprisonment, burglary, robbery, criminal trespassing, firearm violations and related offenses.

Shot at on the Schuylkill

Two teens were trailed for nearly six miles by a lone man in a black Pontiac Bonneville who fired at least 10 times at the duo Monday afternoon for no reason at all.

The 18-year-old was driving his sibling’s car east on the Passyunk Avenue Bridge with a 19-year-old friend in the passenger’s seat when the unprovoked man in the Pontiac pointed a silver handgun at the driver at 4 p.m., Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said. The teen continued to drive toward Broad Street and Oregon Avenue when the offender fired five shots at the car as it got on I-76 at Broad. Exiting the expressway at 34th Street and Grays Ferry Avenue, the man was still on the teen’s tail and fired five or six more shots as their cars headed east toward 27th and Federal streets.

The teens drove south on 27th and east on Mifflin Street to 23rd Street, where they finally shook the man, Tolliver said. They exited their vehicle and noticed a flat tire.

The 18-year-old got the vehicle home and waited until 7 p.m. when his sister got home to call police.

No injuries were reported in the bizarre rampage, Tolliver said.

The Pontiac’s driver was described as black, age 21, 5-foot-6 and 155 pounds with a light complexion and a beard.

Playoff hit and run

A man run over after a fight during Game 5 of the National League Championship Series Oct. 21 died from his injuries Nov. 4 and police are asking the public’s help in identifying the parties responsible.

Southeast of the ballpark in the parking lot of Jetro Warehouse, 3601 S. Darien St., a physical altercation between eight to 10 people occurred at 10:45 p.m., just prior to the Phillies clinching the pennant. During the fight, several of the men got into a white GMC Suburban, according to a Police Public Affairs Unit press release. While backing out, the vehicle struck Nicholas Medorra, 42, of the 2700 block of South Randolph Street, and sped from the scene in an unknown direction, the release said. Medorra was already on the ground, but conscious, prior to the car running him over, according to the press release.

Medorra was transported to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in critical condition with a broken right arm and ribs. He died at 10:59 p.m. two weeks later due to an infection, Sgt. Albert Gramlich of the Accident Investigation District said.

There are no suspects and it is unknown if the men involved in the altercation knew each other, Gramlich added.

17 pets confiscated

Seventeen animals were taken from a Grays Ferry home after the Pennsylvania Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animal’s cruelty hot line received a tip about two animals fighting.

PSPCA law enforcement officers received a search warrant Monday for the home on the 1300 block of South 29th Street where 12 dogs, four cats and a turtle were found living in unsanitary conditions, according to a PSPCA press release. The call reported two dogs at the residence had been fighting and were injured. The canines were allegedly left on the porch without receiving proper veterinary care.

Charges against the owner are pending medical evaluations by PSPCA for all 17 pets, who are now in protective custody, but are not yet ready for adoption.

Worker choked

Without guns, two teens allegedly heldup a grocery store Saturday night and one is said to have choked an employee before both took off when police arrived on the scene.

A 24-year-old worker at Esparanza Grocery Store, on the 2100 block of South Eighth Street, noticed the duo walking around the establishment at 10:10 p.m. before the one the second teen allegedly said was "Richard" went behind the counter, snatching the woman’s cellphone and a gold necklace laying on the counter, Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said. "Richard" demanded cash from the register, while the 15-year-old, of the 2500 block of South Reese Street, allegedly stood by the door as the lookout. "Richard" swiped the money from the till before dragging the employee to the other end of the store, where he began to choke her just as police arrived.

Though both ran from the scene in an unknown direction, the alleged lookout was later stopped by officers on his block 30 minutes later and identified by the woman. Police recovered $116 from the teen, but not the jewelry nor the phone, and charged him with criminal conspiracy, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, robbery and theft. No value was given for the stolen items.

"Richard" — described as black, age 18 to 20, 5-foot-10, 180 pounds and thin with brown eyes and wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and black jeans — is still at large.

A K-9 Unit arrived at the scene and allegedly located Van hiding in the bakery’s rear storage area. He was arrested at 3:30 a.m. and charged with possession of an instrument of crime, criminal mischief, burglary, criminal trespassing and attempted theft.
