The School District of Philadelphia announced last week its plan to increase the number of seats within 19 high-performing schools for next school year by adding more than 2,000 spaces, including 313 in area schools.

The facilities were chosen based on their grade on the School Performance Index, building capacity and ability to maintain the quality of the academic programs currently in place, according to the district.

Included on the list are three local elementary and two high schools: Newlin D. Fell, 900 W. Oregon Ave., will add 25; George W. Nebinger, 601 Carpenter St., will add 75; Edwin M. Stanton, 1700 Christian St., will add 60; Academy at Palumbo, 1100 Catherine St., will add 111; and High School for the Creative and Performing Arts, 901 S. Broad St., will add 42.
