A trash and recycling center fire made for a confusing late morning and early afternoon April 19.

Just before 11:30 a.m., flames broke out at Browning-Ferries Industries Waste Systems of North America Inc., 2904 S. Columbus Boulevard, Philadelphia Fire Department Executive Chief Richard Davison said. Heavy smoke flowed from the site. Not knowing what was ablaze, authorities called in a Hazmat Unit, as the facility contains a large fuel tank. Firefighters put out the injury-free fire just before 12:40 p.m. The disturbance’s cause was unknown at press time.
