A deliveryman was tackled and robbed after he tried to avert a heist in South of South Monday.

A 47-year-old employee from an unknown business was delivering an order to the 2000 block of Catharine Street at 11:20 p.m. Monday when he spotted three men outside of the designated location, Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said. One of the offenders swiped the food and pointed a silver handgun at the worker as two other perpetrators said, “Give us the money. Give us the phone.” The man shoved the trio and tried to escape, but they grabbed him, threw him to the ground and repeatedly punched him all over his head and body. The latter two retrieved $1,550 from his pockets and a cell phone. The initial robber tried to hijack his vehicle, but the trio ended up fleeing on foot south on 21st Street.

The target received scrapes to his head, arm and foot, but it was unclear if he sought medical treatment, Tolliver said.

The armed suspect was described as black, age 20 to 30, tall, thin; having a beard and wearing dark-colored clothing while the others were described as black, age 20 to 30; having a medium height; and wearing dark-colored clothes, with one being heavy set, with long hair and the other being thin with short hair.
