Gunfire put bullets through a bus containing 23 passengers, but caused no injuries.

17th District police responded to the 1800 block of Federal Street where gunfire shattered the rear window of an unattended 2003 Acura MDX parked on the 1200 block of South 19th Street and struck a Route 17 SEPTA bus traveling southbound on 19th at 7 p.m. Nov. 29, Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said.

The 62-year-old bus driver had dropped off a passenger at Federal and, as he pulled away, heard about three shots fired, Tolliver said. One shot struck the bus’ roof while another hit the glass box that holds the surveillance equipment behind the driver’s seat. Neither the driver nor his 23 passengers were injured.

A black Buick Roadmaster was seen quickly leaving the scene, Tolliver said.

The motive was unknown at press time, but police do not believe the bus was targeted, Tolliver said. Police recovered ballistics evidence from the scene and on the bus, but did not have any suspects as of press time.
