A surprise display of aggression at a Passyunk Square pizza shop left a worker with screwdriver-induced injuries.

Police officers answered a 5:19 p.m. assault call from SliCE, 1180 S. 10th St., and observed the 23-year-old male complainant bleeding from the back of his head. The victim told them a co-worker had let him know someone wished to see him in the back of the establishment, Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said.

Entering the doorway, he soon had to contend with screwdriver thrusts from the offender. Following communication between the injured worker and a peer, the former ended up transported to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and was treated for injuries, Tolliver said.

The alleged implement-wielding figure, Joseph Tursi, 39, of the 3100 block of South 20th Street, turned himself in at 7:41 that evening and was charged with aggravated and simple assault, conspiracy, possession of an instrument of crime and recklessly endangering another person. The Packer Park resident, who faced similar charges that ended up being dismissed in 1993, posted 10 percent of his $10,000 bail the next day.
