Police announced Tuesday they have charged 35-year-old Marcellus Jones, of North Philly, with the June 15, 2008 murder of Beau Zabel on the 800 block of Ellsworth Street.
An arrest affidavit released the same day noted Jones had already been serving a life sentence for killing accomplice Tyrek Taylor the same year, police said. Having engaged in interviews with relatives and acquaintances, the Homicide Special Investigation Unit concluded Jones had participated in the killing of Zabel, a 23-year-old Minnesota native who lived a block away from the crime scene, with authorities saying the incident occurred over an iPod. Zabel had moved to South Philadelphia for inclusion in the Philadelphia Teaching Fellows program.
