Fan appreciation

In this frustrated, championship-craving town, each Philly pro sports owner makes an effort to give fans a winning product, but voters didn’t hold the lack of recent Stanley Cup championships against Philadelphia Flyers’ chairman Ed Snider — better known as Mr. Snider.

Maybe it’s the fact that since 1966 when he purchased the NHL franchise, Snider , 80, has helped to shape the South Philly pro sports landscape. The visionary behind the gone, but never forgotten Spectrum and, of course, the building now known as the Wells Fargo Center, 3601 S. Broad St., is still seen sitting in the stands night after night keeping a close eye on operations.

The current season has included its share of frustrations between the lockout, which wiped out half of the regular season, and the fact that the Flyers can’t seem to build enough momentum to climb up the Eastern Conference standings.

While a parade down South Broad Street might be a stretch this year, Flyers fans can be sure Snider, who has seen two Stanley Cup championships under his watch, will be ready to do whatever it takes to turn this franchise around in the offseason.

Jeffrey Lurie of the Philadelphia Eagles claimed ownership of second, while Sixers co-owner Will Smith made a cameo in third.
