Sunday morning, five days after he suffered a puncture to the heart, 14-year-old Azim Chaplin died at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Officer Tanya Little of Police Public Affairs said. Police had responded to a report of a stabbing on the 2100 block of Watkins Street at 8 p.m. Feb. 11, observing the youth on the 1700 block of South 22nd Street with a wound to the chest.

Upon his arrival at the medical facility, doctors immediately took the victim to surgery. Law enforcement agents, who heard from witnesses that 15-year-old Amber Hellesten had stabbed Azim with a knife during an argument before running off with another unknown female, arrested the resident of the 2000 block of Sigel Street that night at her abode, Little said. Authorities will try the girl as an adult, with Little adding that they could change the charge from attempted murder to murder based on a medical examiner’s report.
