Fisher may be well known for his famous ex-wives of Debbie Reynolds, Elizabeth Taylor and Connie Stevens, but he made a lasting impression as a performer. The native of the 2500 block of South Fifth Street recorded 22-consecutive hit records. The great run to stardom began with the 1950 release of “Thinking of You,” which made Billboard’s Top-50 List and the publication named Fisher America’s Most Promising Male Vocalist in its annual disk-jockey poll. “Oh! My Papa,” “Wish You Were Here” and “Lady in Spain” are a few of the other hits that followed.

The Whitman native hosted his own show during the 1950s entitled “Coke Time” that resulted in a $1-million contract to become the company’s national spokesman. A ’58 Golden Globe for Best TV Show soon followed. The ’46 South Philadelphia High grad also earned two Emmy nominations in the Best Male Singer Category. Fisher passed away in 2010 at the age of 82.
