DUI crash injures cop

A Morton man was arrested after allegedly crashing his vehicle and striking a cop’s car while driving under the influence.

A 1st District officer was in his vehicle at a red light at 22nd Street and West Passyunk Avenue when Eric Marino, 31, rear-ended the officer’s automobile at 11:23 p.m. Nov. 17, Officer Jill Russell of the Police Public Affairs Unit said. The officer was transported to Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania for neck, back and leg pain.

Morton allegedly also struck a Toyota Corolla that contained two passengers, injuring one, Tasha Jamerson, spokeswoman for the District Attorney’s Office, said.

Morton was arrested and charged with three counts of aggravated assault by a vehicle while driving under the influence, driving under the influence — first offense, criminal mischief, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and recklessly driving, along with one count of aggravated assault, according to court records.

Morton posted 10 percent of his $2,000 bail Saturday.

Police did not have an update on the officer’s condition, but Russell noted he did not suffer any major injuries.
