After a man was shot in the face, he tried to drive away but crashed his car into a utility pole Saturday.

The 20-year-old was seated in his Chevrolet at 1:42 p.m. on the 2300 block of Greenwich Street when police believe an unknown offender fired three shots into the car with two bullets traveling through the front driver’s side window and another through the rear driver’s side window, Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said. The man was struck once in the head with the bullet hitting him in the left cheek, ricocheting off of a bone and exiting by his left ear.

The man drove his car west on Greenwich, but struck a telephone pole, so he exited the automobile and walked to the 1500 block of South 24th Street where an unknown woman dialed 911, Tolliver said. Police transported him to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania where he was treated for his facial injuries.

Police recovered the automobile and ballistics evidence at the scene, but did not have any suspects at press time, Tolliver said.

The motive was also unknown, but detectives had planned to interview the victim at the hospital last night after press time, Sgt. Gwen Bartlett of South Detectives said.
