Bicyclists in Dickinson Square West used their rides to escape capture following an attack Sunday.

Their male victim reported that at 12:12 a.m. he encountered the four figures while he walked southbound between Tasker and Dickinson streets on Sixth Street, Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said. As they approached him, the complainant suspected he would face trouble and declared “Just take whatever you want; just leave my ID and my phone.”

Minus any provocation, they began to punch and kick him. Falling to the ground, the defenseless individual suffered additional punches, with one of the aggressors reaching into his pockets to rid him of his Cricket Android phone, $400 and his identification, which he received back before the unknown males grabbed their bikes and fled northbound along Sixth Street, Tolliver said.

The complainant, who suffered a lump on his forehead and a scrape underneath his chin, described his attackers as Hispanic, 19 to 22 years old and wearing gray hoodies. No further details were available as of press time.
