As a Dickinson Narrows man was taken into custody for violating his parole, he allegedly assaulted and threatened to take a cop’s life Saturday.

3rd District police spotted Eugene Sanders, 40, on the 700 block of Dudley Street when officers approached him and tried to arrest him for a parole violation at 7:40 p.m., Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said. The resident of the 400 block of Manton Street refused to cooperate and when an officer tried to cuff him, he allegedly shoved the officer to the ground, jumped on top of him and tried to take his gun from his holster.

“Y’all going to have to kill me. I’m going to fight ’till I die,” he allegedly told police. Another officer tried to pull him off, but struggled until he too was pushed to the ground, Tolliver said. The second officer sprayed the offender with pepper spray before handcuffing him.

Sanders was treated at Methodist Hospital for contamination of Mace, Tolliver said, and is believed to have told hospital employees, “If I would have gotten the gun, I would have blown his head off.”

The first officer believed to be attacked sustained minor injuries, but did not seek medical treatment, Tolliver said.

Sanders was charged with resisting arrest, aggravated assault, simple assault, terroristic threats and recklessly endangering another person.
