A man attempting to fend off a gun-toting individual crashed into a light pole in Grays Ferry Friday.

Authorities responded at 9 p.m. to a call of gunshots on the highway at 26th and Manton streets and observed that a gray Mazda sedan had crashed into the pole on the northeast corner of the intersection, Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said. The vehicle’s owner told them that when his ride was idle, an unknown male put a black gun through the back passenger side window.

The complainant attempted to grab the weapon and put his foot on the gas. The acceleration led to his crashing into the pole, an incident that caused a minor cut to his right hand and that inflicted heavy front end damage to the automobile, Tolliver said. Authorities observed a strike mark on the passenger side’s hood but could not provide a description of the shooter.
