A judge found a Point Breeze man guilty of killing his boyfriend.
A spat inside the couple’s apartment on the 2000 block of Oakford Street at 2:47 a.m. April 7, 2011 ended with Angel Brown, 27, receiving a fatal stab wound to his chest that Alonzo Simmons allegedly confessed to doing, according to police.
“It was an argument between the two that began at a bar in Center City and continued in a cab ride home,” Assistant District Attorney Thomas Lipscomb said. “…The defendant stabbed the victim once in the chest and the knife went in deep enough to pierce the victim’s heart and he died at the scene or shortly thereafter.”
Simmons, now 30, who goes by the name of “Alicia” and was permitted to wear woman’s clothing in court, pled not guilty and waived a jury trial April 13, according to court records. However Court of Common Pleas Judge Glenn B. Bronson found him guilty of third-degree murder and possession of an instrument of crime. His sentencing is set for June 8.
He faces a maximum of 22-and-a-half to 45 years in jail, Lipscomb said.
