After removing a man’s wife from the home, police stunned the man with a Taser when he refused to drop his weapon.

Police entered the home of Ernest Kinkel, 58, of the 100 block of Emily Street, to find him — allegedly armed with a rifle — and his 54-year-old wife in the living room at 10:17 p.m. Sunday, Officer Christine O’Brien of Police Public Affairs Unit said. The two were involved in an unknown dispute prior to police arrival.

After getting his spouse out of the dwelling, police demanded he drop his weapon, O’Brien said. Kinkel is believed to have refused. He reportedly stood up from the sofa with the firearm still in his hands and asked the officers to shoot him.

One of the officers used a Taser to subdue the man. The officers retrieved the weapon and arrested Kinkel, who was charged with three counts of aggravated assault on a police officer; four counts each of terroristic threats, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person; and one count of possession of an instrument of crime.
