The Philadelphia Police Department and the family of Christopher Tully, formerly of the 2600 block of South 16th Street, confirmed on Sunday that members of Greater Philadelphia Search and Rescue located the 40-year-old’s body on the bank of the Schuylkill River. They had been searching for the award-winning teacher since Jan. 6 when he exited his parents’ car near Ridge Avenue and Lincoln Drive, with authorities saying he began walking toward City Avenue.

“It has been confirmed that the recovery that took place today was in fact Chris,” brother Edward Tully posted on the Help Find Christopher Tully Facebook page. “He had given so much, and he had so much more to give.”

The educator, who last year received Teacher of the Year distinction from the Pennsylvania Association for Career and Technical Education, had been suffering from bipolar disorder and had not been taking his medication, according to his family. He leaves behind three children.

Visitation will occur at the Monti-Rago Funeral Home, 2531-35 S. Broad St., 7 to 9 tonight and 8:30 to 10 a.m. tomorrow before an 11 a.m. funeral Mass at Epiphany of Our Lord Church, 11th and Jackson streets. Burial will take place in Yeadon’s Holy Cross Cemetery.
