Having helped to helm operations during the entire 39-year history of Girard Academic Music Program, 2136 Ritner St., Dr. Jack Carr has bonded with thousands of colleagues and enrollees enamored with the flawless execution of notes. Their dedication in turn has made them notable, as readers chimed in to name it South Philly’s top music program.

“We appreciate the recognition very much because we tirelessly aspire to honor our chosen interest,” Carr, the Girard Estate site’s second-year principal, said.

With more than 500 learners hailing from about 30 zip codes in the fifth through 12th grades, the location serves as a melody mecca with jazz and marching bands, a string quartet and choir opportunities. Though the site, which offers all pupils music instruction such as composition, history and theory in at least five periods per week, has numerous vocal specialists, instrumentalists, most notably budding pianists, who benefit from a piano lab, comprise the majority. The youngsters also earn enviable opportunities to thrive through the school’s partnerships with such behemoths as the Academy of Music and the Kimmel Center.

Preparing for next month’s on-site “Grease” production, the students can take pride in knowing readers are hopelessly devoted to them.

“Our children are models of diligence,” Carr said, “so we as a whole thank the community for appreciating that.”

Fifth Stone Music School struck a chord in second, while Settlement Music School played a triad in third.
