An unknown man who claimed to have accidentally taken an East Passyunk area resident’s cell phone robbed the man in his kitchen Saturday night.

The 61-year-old heard his front door open and upon peering out from his bedroom he saw a man standing in his kitchen holding his cell phone at 9:12 p.m., Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said. The perpetrator said, “I took your cell phone by mistake” before wrestling the victim to the floor. The offender punched the man in the face with a fan and pulled $500 from his pants pocket before fleeing the dwelling on the 1700 block of South Ninth Street and running south on Ninth.

The intruder was described as Hispanic, age 25, 5-foot-9, thin, cleanly shaven and wearing a black pea coat with a fur collar and a black baseball cap with a “W” on the front.
