Funds for cops

Monday, District Attorney Lynne Abraham dedicated "Wall of Photographs" in the media/training room of her office at Two Penn Center to 21 fallen police officers. Family members of the officers, Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey, Deputy Commissioner Richard Ross and others attended the 11 a.m. ceremony. Additionally, Abraham presented a $1,745 check to the Fraternal Order of Police for its Police Survivors Fund. The money was raised by Assistant District Attorneys Shea Rhodes, Meghan Sheehan and Richard Boyd at the Leprechaun Run and the Broad Street Run earlier this year.

In other district attorney news, though she was unable to ride this year in the Ninth Annual Motorcycle Ride for Peace and Unity due to a prior commitment, Abraham gave opening remarks and offered a prayer for the city moments before Saturday’s 11 a.m. event. Every year, local resident and community activist Paul "Earthquake" Moore team for the rally.

"Paul and I are committed partners in our stand against violence," Abraham said in a press statement. "Our message is quite clear: we must keep our children and our communities safe by providing our young people with the proper guidance so that they are equipped to make smart choices in life."

Bikers from across the Delaware Valley set off from Broad and Pattison to Cheltenham Avenue then back down Broad Street to City Hall in an effort to rally all citizens to take a stand against gun violence. A reception followed the ride at the State Burners’ Motorcycle Club House on Woodland Avenue near 52nd Street. The club is so named because they ‘burn rubber’ riding from state to state.

The motorcycle ride caps this year’s Weekend of Peace," an effort to rally all citizens to take a stand against gun violence.
