Police believe teens are responsible for striking a man until he was unconscious and stealing his iPhone last week.

The 29-year-old exited the Snyder Avenue stop of the Broad Street Line and walked southbound on the west side of the 2100 block of South Broad Street at 8:45 p.m. Jan. 31, Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said. An unknown person whacked him on the back of the head with an unknown heavy object, which forced him forward.

The victim was losing consciousness as at least two men demanded, “Give me what you got” multiple times, Tolliver said. They continued to smack his head and upper body with the blunt object while he was on the ground before they ran off in an unknown direction with his iPhone.

The victim went to the home of a family member, who transported him to Methodist Hospital where he received eight staples to close a laceration on the right side of his head and a cast for his broken right arm, Tolliver said.

The men are believed to be teens, but no further information was available at press time.
