A Southwest teen who allegedly robbed a man at knifepoint was caught fleeing the scene last week in the South of South neighborhood.

A 23-year-old man was walking on the 600 block of South 16th Street when 19-year-old Jermaine Rawlings and another man allegedly came up behind him and placed a knife to his throat, Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said. After being instructed to empty his pockets, he gave up his iPhone, keys and wallet containing identification and $20.

Police saw Rawlings racing west on the 2000 block of Kater Street with a red shirt in his left hand, Tolliver said. As police approached him, he ran in the opposite direction on Kater, south on 20th, west on Bainbridge, south on 21st and east on the 1900 block of Pemberton Street where police nabbed him.

All of the stolen items were recovered, Tolliver said.

Rawlings was charged with robbery, theft — unlawful taking and receiving stolen property, simple assault, conspiracy possession of an instrument of crime and recklessly endangering another person.

The second man involved in the robbery was described as black, age 15 to 18, 5-foot-6, and wearing a large black T-shirt and do-rag.
