Auto angst

An argument led to an attempted carjacking Saturday night.

A 20-year-old was driving his 2003 black Chevy Blazer with two friends, a 17- and 18-year-old male, in tow on the 700 block of Porter Street at 1:40 a.m., Detective Danielle Tolliver said. About nine male teens — one of which was armed with an ice scraper — and a female teen surrounded his car and asked if they were with Matt and Donte.

Those in the car exited, and a verbal dispute ensued, but it soon turned physical, Tolliver said. The auto’s driver was knocked to the ground and heard his car door close. After getting backup, he saw one of the offenders in his seat, so he opened the door and sat on his lap and put his foot on the brake while the offender was pressing the gas.

The car headed east on Porter for less than a block before it struck two parked cars and a street sign, Tolliver said. Both a 2008 block Mercedes Benz and 2003 white Dodge van received minor damages.

The offenders fled in unknown directions, Tolliver said. No injuries were reported.

Not all of the offenders’ descriptions were available at press time.

One of the male teens was described as white, 5-foot-6 and blond, while another was described as black, age 18, 6-foot-1, heavy and having no facial hair.
