An East Passyunk man, who was sentenced for a mugging two weeks ago, was allegedly caught robbing a bank a block from his home last week.

Michael Beasley, 40, of the 1300 block of East Passyunk Avenue, was convicted of robbery for an Oct. 24 purse snatching, and sentenced to three to 23 months in jail and a year of probation March 28, according to court records.

At 1:18 p.m. April 7, he supposedly entered Wachovia Bank, 1400 E. Passyunk Ave., and handed a teller a demand note with “This is a robbery. Fill the envelope with cash. No funny business,” scribbled on it, Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said.

The employee obliged providing $245 to Beasley, who then is believed to have left the bank, Tolliver said.

However, a bank manager confronted the man and ordered him back inside the business, Tolliver said. Beasley allegedly agreed and the manager locked the doors until police arrived.

Beasley was charged with robbery theft, receiving stolen property and related offenses.
