A robber carrying a two-by-four was sympathetic after stealing from a man Saturday night.

The thief — with the piece of wood in hand — approached a 22-year-old man at Seventh and Dickinson streets at 11:01 p.m. and said, “Give me your money and your cell phone. Where are you from? Are you even from here?” Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said. He swiped his cell phone and $40 and said, “ Sorry, but I need the money” before heading south on Sixth Street. The victim was unharmed.

The offender was described as white, age 25, 6 foot, thin, clean shaven; having short, brown hair; and wearing a black sweater and blue jeans.
