A man attempted to pin down a Point Breeze burglar while his girlfriend called the police Saturday afternoon, but was unsuccessful.

The 47-year-old learned his property on the 1700 block of South Taylor Street had been broken into when his 44-year-old girlfriend received a call alerting the couple the dwelling’s back door was wide open.

The pair arrived at the uninhabited location at 1:45 p.m. As they surveyed the area for missing items, which included a refrigerator, radiator, television, bike, pots, clothes and about $400, an unknown man entered through the rear door with a battery-powered saw. The property owner tried to keep a hold of the perpetrator while his significant other dialed 911. However, the man tried to stab him and managed to get away, heading east on Mountain Street.

An emergency medical technician treated a small cut to the man’s right thumb.

The thief was described as black with a medium complexion, age 40 to 45, 5-foot-9, 230 pounds, bald; having a goatee; and wearing a green hat, tan jacket and tan pants.
