Alleged rapist crosses border

Identified Friday as the alleged rapist, 33-year-old Alberto Isaac Navarrete Suarez, was last seen near Dallas Saturday, but police now believe he may have crossed the border into Mexico, according to the Police Public Affairs Unit.

Suarez allegedly forced the 22-year-old woman, who was waiting for the Route 47 bus at Eighth and Race streets, to a nearby subway entrance at about 9:30 p.m. where he is believed to have choked and sexually assaulted her.

At 9:35 p.m., 6th District police responded to the area for a reported rape causing Suarez, whose last known address is on the 2600 block of South Seventh Street, to flee northwest toward Ninth and Vine streets, but he left his pants, shoes and wallet behind. Area surveillance cameras caught parts of his escape.

The woman was transported to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.

Suarez was described as Hispanic, 5-foot-7, 140 pounds, medium build and black hair. Identification found in his wallet listed him as 35-year-old Dario Gomez Lopez.
