Last week, police announced the arrest of a man wanted for a Point Breeze robbery.
On July 30, responding to an anonymous call from an individual who had watched surveillance footage of the crime, officers busted 36-year-old Wayne Whitley, not far from his North Philly home. As first reported in the South Philly Review (“Lawless action,” July 24) a law enforcement figure was performing a security check on the 1800 block of South Broad Street at 11:30 a.m. July 9 and left his Trek Police Bike outside the property. When he returned, his mode of transportation, helmet and saddle bag were gone.
Authorities located the bicycle at 13th Street and Girard Avenue at 12:15 p.m. the same day and recovered the helmet and the bag with no contents missing. They have charged Whitley with theft and related offenses.
