A thief pointed a gun at a man, who caught him breaking into his vehicle in Newbold.

The 61-year-old walked to his front door when he heard his car alarm sounding at 3:53 a.m. Feb. 1 on the 1800 block of South Carlisle Street, Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said. An unknown man was rummaging through his glove compartment while seated in the driver’s seat. When the man yelled, the offender stood up and pointed a small, silver handgun at the vehicle’s owner, who backed up. The thief fled south on Carlisle and west on Mifflin Street with a prescription for medication.

The offender was described as black with a light complexion, age 20, 130 to 140 pounds, thin, clean shaven and wearing a dark-colored hoody and pants.
