A Packer Park homeowner lost a fortune in jewelry during a burglary last week.

Police ventured to the 3100 block of South 18th Street at 9:22 p.m. Feb. 7 and met with a resident who told them he had been away from the abobe from 6 to 9 p.m., Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said. Finding his front door partially open, he saw items moved within his living room, with the authorities engaging in a walkthrough with him.

Together they found multiple cabinets and drawers opened and appearing ransacked. The occupant reported a firebox missing from an upstairs bedroom, with the holder containing paperwork and jewelry valued at $180,000, Tolliver said. Officers found no signs of forced entry.
