A Scoop of fans

During the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, many fans root for the teams that will help them win the office pool. Others like supporting a favorite team or player. Syracuse University answers the calling of both categories as the Orange, the No. 1 seed in the East, could be penciled in as a Final Four team and possible national champion. The squad’s starting lineup includes top local college athlete Antonio “Scoop” Jardine.

When his team takes the court 3:10 this afternoon against No. 16 seed University of North Carolina at Asheville in Pittsburgh (truTV) , there might be a few local eyeballs glued to the screen. The Second Team All-Big East selection is ready to continue pleasing his local fan base.

The floor general, who grew up on the 1800 block of South Taylor Street, draws plenty of attention on the court with his season averages of 8.3 points, 4.7 assists and 1.2 steals per game.

The 6-foot-2 senior guard is focussed on helping Syracuse bounce back from its disappointing early Big East Tournament exit against Cincinnati, 71-68. His team is still ranked No. 2 in the nation with a 31-2 mark.

Temple University senior and Southern grad Ramone Moore scored runner-up recognition.
