When the Leuzzi family opened Stogie Joe’s Tavern, 1801-03 E. Passyunk Ave., in 2008, brothers Joe, Kristian and Sonny sought to offer an amazing blend of delicious provisions and smooth libations. With national renown having already proven their mission well-designed, the siblings also can revel thanks to local voices, who have deemed their East Passyunk Crossing location’s bar menu South Philly’s best.
“People know what they’re getting when they come here, and that’s a big selection of food and drink options,” Sonny said. “It’s a point of pride for us to have something for everyone.”
With 10 appetizers and as many as 20 bar menu items, patrons never fail to validate the Leuzzis’ all-inclusive approach and avoid paying exorbitant prices to do so.
“We love that we have such high-quality, affordable and home-cooked food,” manager Joe DiOrio said. “Our menu, aside from specials, has been constant, so it’s great to have recognition for all we do.”
Diners particularly enjoy the site’s meatball sandwich, pizza, sausage bites and homemade clams casino, with Bloody Marys and margaritas delighting the of-age crowd. Committed to contenting their customers, the principal players enjoy obtaining their praise.
“I speak for all of us when I say how grateful we are,” Sonny said. “It’s especially good because this comes from local people, and we know there are plenty of great places to eat around here.”
Chickie’s & Pete’s raised a glass in second place, while Cheech’s beefed up in third.
