Agony of the street

An armed bike rider, who threatened to blow a man’s head off, robbed the male and his mate at gunpoint in Bella Vista.

A 64-year-old man and his wife of the same age were strolling on the 800 block of East Passyunk Avenue at 11:30 p.m. Aug. 23 when a bicyclist halted and hopped from his ride before pointing a small, black and silver handgun and saying, “Give me your … wallet or I’ll blow your head off,” Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said.

The man passed him his wallet, containing $400, credit cards and ID, while his spouse contributed $95, Tolliver said. The gunman said “Now walk the other way,” prior to mounting his older-style cycle with dark-colored fenders and heading eastbound on Queen Street.

The mugger was described as black, in his early-20s, 5-foot-10, thin and wearing white T-shirt and black jeans.
