After confronting the man who kicked his car, the man received a stab wound to his side Monday morning in Passyunk Square.

The 26-year-old was driving with three passengers on the 700 block of Federal Street, Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said. After stopping at a stop sign at Eighth Street, a man kicked the driver’s side front door. The vehicle emptied as its occupants confronted the man on the 800 block of Federal. The kicker stabbed the driver once in the left side of his back with a small, sharp object, which may have been a pocketknife. The driver’s 27-year-old girlfriend and a 33-year-old female passenger attempted to hold back the man, but after his sunglasses fell off and broke, he fled west on Federal.

The driver was transported to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania where he was scheduled to have surgery to treat his puncture wound. A medical update wasn’t available at press time.

The offender was described as Asian or Latino with a medium complexion, in his late-30s or early 40s, 5-foot-4, 180 pounds, clean-shaven; having a stocky build; and wearing a white T-shirt, khaki shorts, black high-top sneakers, a black baseball hat and white sunglasses.
