The rupture of a 48-inch transmission main Sunday at 21st and Bainbridge streets forced residents and their neighbors from their homes, reduced water pressure in surrounding areas and created this massive sinkhole. The Philadelphia Water Department has begun to correct the eyesore and expects to complete cleaning tomorrow, with work from Verizon, Philadelphia Gas Works and PECO to follow. SPR
