A man robbed a Hawthorne grocery clerk at gunpoint and fled on a bicycle last week.

The perpetrator entered Chloe’s Deli Market, 909 S. 12th St., and asked for an item behind the counter at 4:30 p.m. July 12, Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said. As the 62-year-old employee turned to retrieve the requested merchandise, the offender pulled out a silver-colored handgun and pointed it at the worker’s face when he turned around and demanded cash. The cashier handed over the register’s $100.

The robber — who was described as black with a medium complexion, age 20 to 25, 5-foot-9, 170 pounds; having a medium build; and wearing a black and white T-shirt and black pants — fled the store and headed westbound on Montrose Street on a bike.
