A woman was followed and robbed after cashing a check in Whitman Friday.

After the 22-year-old received funds for a check at a check-cashing store at Fifth Street and Oregon Avenue at 6:30 p.m., a man asked her what bus to take to get to a Baptist church, but she didn’t know, Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said. He then inquired what street he was on, so she answered “Oregon Avenue” and headed to Dunkin’ Donuts, 330 W. Oregon Ave. The man followed her into the store, but she bought a soda and left. Outside, he put a gun to her back and said, “Give me the money.” A second man took $100 from her back pocket and the duo fled.

The gunman was described as black with a light complexion, in his 50s, 6-foot-1, 150 pounds, bald and wearing a blue baseball cap, blue jean jacket, white T-shirt and brown boots. His accomplice was described as black with a light complexion, in his mid-20s, 5-foot-7 to 5-foot-8, 130 pounds, close-cropped hair, and wearing a tan shirt, blue jeans and black sneakers.
