A Point Breeze/Newbold man, who held a woman at knifepoint in a Passyunk Square mugging Monday, was apprehended.

The 22-year-old woman was walking down the 1400 block of South Watts Street at 1:35 a.m. when Belarmino Cruz aka Emillo Sarro, 30, of the 1200 block of South 15th Street, grabbed her neck and said, “Give me what you got,” Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said. When she claimed she had nothing to give, he allegedly placed a large knife to her neck, so she handed over $175 from her pocket. He also is believed to have snatched a gold necklace with a cross medallion that she was wearing. The woman sprinted to Broad Street as she dialed 911.

Police located Cruz across the street on the 1400 block of South Broad, Tolliver said. The knife, cash and the necklace minus the cross were recovered and her belongings were returned.

Cruz was charged with robbery, aggravated and simple assaults, terroristic threats and related charges, according to court records. His bail was set at $50,000 Monday.
