Puzzling slaughter

A Grays Ferry man was found dead inside his home Tuesday morning. The details around his death remain a mystery.

Neighbors called police to check on the well-being of Donald Jones, 44, whom they had not seen for a few days, Officer Jill Russell of the Police Public Affairs Unit said. Upon entering the home on the 2500 block of South Newkirk Street at 11:12 a.m., officers discovered the resident’s body with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was pronounced dead at 11:19 a.m.

The motive was unknown and there were no suspects at press time.
