A man was able to muscle his door shut to avoid a home invasion early Monday.

A 32-year-old heard a knock at the door at 2:35 a.m. He opened the front door to his home on the 2600 block of Gerritt Street a crack when two unknown men tried to force their ways through the entryway. One was armed with a black handgun and demanded cash, but the resident was able to force the door shut and remain unscathed.

The offenders fled in an unknown direction.

One was described as black with a dark complexion, in his early 20s, thin, 5-foot-6; having short hair, light facial hair; and wearing a gray hoodie and khakis.

The second was described as black with a light complexion, in his early 20s, thin, 5-foot-9; having a penny-sized star tattoo cutline next to his right eye; and wearing an olive-colored jacket.
