A trucker was robbed while conducting a vehicle safety check in Whitman Friday.

The 62-year-old parked his Freightliner truck on the 2700 block of South Third Street at 12:30 a.m. and fell asleep, Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said.

While inspecting his truck at 8:15 a.m., three men surrounded him, Tolliver said. One said, “Give me the money now,” as he held a small, black gun to his head. When the victim claimed he did not have any, another offender, who was holding a small knife, demanded his wallet. The victim handed it to the knife-wielding man and the trio fled toward Oregon Avenue.

The gunman was described as black, age 45, 5-foot-8; having a medium build; and wearing a black hoody and blue jeans. The suspect armed with a knife was described as black, age 30, 5-foot-7; having a medium build; and wearing a black jacket, pants and baseball cap. The third man was described as black, age 40, 5-foot-7; having a medium build; and wearing a black hoody and scarf covering his face.
