Theatrical presence

Interested in turning your home into a theater and your family into performers? Headlong Dance Theater is selecting four Philadelphia households to participate in “This Town Is a Mystery,” an innovative performance project that will premiere during the 2012 Philadelphia Live Arts Festival.

Founded in 1993, the company will incorporate “citizen dancers” into its performances without them stepping foot out of their own homes. Household participants, who will receive a stipend, will have to commit to short, structured rehearsal practices upon performances in September, but do not need to have any prior experience.

Each 20-to-25-minute show will be constructed by using the study of movement, stories, music and video. Dinner will be shared by performers and about 10 audience members following the experience, encouraging an intimate opportunity to see other ways of life in Philadelphia.
