The SS United States has rested at Pier 82 for 19 years, but changes could soon be coming for the vessel, whose initial jaunt in July 1952 set a record for fastest westbound crossing of the Atlantic Ocean. A titular conservancy group plans to release sneak peeks of some of the conceptual renderings by top architectural firms enthused about reimagining the ship, with refashioning as a stationary mixed-use museum and development complex heading the possibilities list.
