Three men remain at large for their roles in an attempted robbery in Hawthorne.
The complainant was walking on Broad Street approaching Bainbridge Street at 5:15 a.m. Saturday when a white Hyundai hatchback pulled up, with the operator asking him for the time, Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said. When he took out his iPhone and walked toward the vehicle, the motorist grabbed him and tried to take the gadget from him.
The man held on to the side of the automobile as it pulled off, with the driver dragging him for two blocks. He last saw the ride heading southbound on Broad Street. Methodist Hospital workers treated him for cuts and bruises to his right hip.
He described the driver as black and in his mid 30s and wearing a black T-shirt; the front passenger as black and in his mid 30s; having tattoo arm sleeves; and wearing a white V-neck T-shirt; and the rear-seat occupant as black and in his mid 30s and weighing more than 300 pounds.
