Catering to his customers

Lou Galdo Sr., who is entering his 40th year in the hospitality industry, knows how to host an occasion — ranging from wedding receptions to funeral luncheons to corporate functions. The spacious, formal setting at Galdo’s, 1933 W. Moyamensing Ave., has enough room to accommodate up to 300 guests on any given night (for more intimate affairs the rooms can broken down to handle a crowd of 150 people). No matter what the occasion is, Galdo’s is producing favorable returns as the Readers’ Choice for catering hall.

“I am certainly honored to win for the second-straight year,” Galdo said. “Winning any type of food award in the South Philadelphia area is special because of the great establishments that exist.”

The Marconi-based facility hosted the South Philly Review’s 2014 Difference Maker celebration as well as the first Pizza Olympics in ’09. When a customer comes in to discuss booking the hall, the proud owner approaches each occasion with the same goals — “excellent service and quality food.”

It takes a team of leaders along with a strong support staff to execute the plan. Assistant general manager Lou Galdo Jr., general manger Alfred Furia and executive chef Michael Oster are just a few of the people Galdo counts on regularly.

“My goals of serving my customers are easily attained because of my management staff,” he said.

The Waterfall Room reserved a second-place showing while The Swan booked third.
