A 70-year-old man died shortly after a vehicle struck him in Girard Estate.
The driver of a 2004 Ford Explorer was traveling on the 2300 block of Oregon Avenue at 7:56 p.m. Feb. 4. He said the older adult just appeared, according to Officer Tanya Little of the Police Public Affairs Unit. The motorist tried to swerve but could not avoid hitting the pedestrian, who received transport to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, with personnel pronouncing him at 8:20 p.m. The operator of the vehicle remained on location, but authorities had not given his status or revealed the identity of the victim as of press time, pending notice to his family.
