Police arrested a Newbold man for supposedly burglarizing a Point Breeze residence Saturday.

At 10:14 p.m., authorities headed to a property on the 1100 block of South Cleveland Street in response to a blaring burglary alarm, Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said. They immediately observed damage to the rear basement window, a large-screen television in the rear yard and a male in the second-floor window.

As they surrounded the location, the man allegedly exited the abode through the aforementioned opening and tried to leave the area by climbing on neighboring houses’ power lines. After a fall, he supposedly ran through an alley to escape, but authorities stopped him at the end of the block. Using a search incident to arrest, they recovered property belonging to the complainant from the offender’s person, leading to the arrest of 34-year-old Rishine Thomas, also known as Reginald Thomas, of the 1400 block of South Hicks Street, and charged him with possession of an instrument of crime, criminal mischief, burglary, criminal trespassing and theft. He had not posted his $10,000 bail as of press time and awaits a Feb. 17 preliminary hearing.
