Enforcement needed

To the Editor:

I understand the motor-pedestrian law to read that if a pedestrian is in a crosswalk when the traffic light changes, the driver of a car is to allow the pedestrian to finishing crossing in front of the car. This may be the law, but it is also common sense.

My problem is with the pedestrians who take advantage of the law and walk out in traffic regardless of the traffic lights or the cars. Often, they never look in any direction, sometimes attached to some tech device, paying no attention to the possibility of being struck by a car.

Recently, a pedestrian ran in front of my car from the right corner of the street to the left corner on the diagonal. I could have struck her. Both of us were saved by people yelling on the street. Why isn’t the law being enforced?
